Introduction:

Chemical users/handlers are highly prone to chemical hazardous exposures. They have a ‘Right-To-Know’ of their exposure to all the chemicals and scheduled wastes involved, as per stated by Occupational Safety Health Act 1994, Environmental Quality Act 1974 and their regulations. They must be fully aware, trained and provided with sufficient personal protective equipment and engineering-controlled devices to reduce their hazardous exposure levels. Nevertheless, they can also be an important and integral component of a company’s effective Chemical Spill Emergency Response Team. It is also essential to control entrance of unregistered chemicals and establish total chemical management procedures at the workplace. This program will guide participants to acquire the knowledge on how to handle, manage safely chemicals and control spillage in the workplace.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of program, participants will be able to:

• Explain the legal requirement in managing chemical at workplace;
• Have the clear understanding of the requirement on the Classification, Labeling and Safety Data Sheet of Hazardous Chemicals Regulations 2013;
• Recognize various hazards especially chemical hazards in the workplace;
• Be able to understand the importance and interprets the Safety Data Sheet (CSDS/MSDS) and managing chemical at workplace;
• Be able to conduct risk assessment for any chemical that exists in the organization;
• Plan and conduct activity to reduce or prevent accident that happened due to chemical handling;
• Dispose chemical based on Scheduled Waste Regulations 2005.
